This unique 12-month program offers friendly, outgoing,
hospitality-oriented individuals from England, Wales, Scotland, and Northern
Ireland the opportunity to represent the cultures and traditions of their
countries while interacting with Guests from all over the world. Participants
hired as Cultural Representatives will work in the United Kingdom Pavilion at
Epcot®.
Epcot® opened at the Walt Disney
World® Resort on October 1, 1982. As part of
Epcot®, World Showcase has become "a community of
nations; the only permanent international exposition of its kind, focusing on
the culture, traditions, tourism and accomplishments of people around the
world." This community of nations is represented by the United Kingdom, France,
Morocco, Japan, Italy, Germany, China, Norway, Mexico, the United States and
Canada.
The United Kingdom Pavilion captures the essence of the
four countries of Britain: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. With
a happy blend of architectural styles that represent 400 years of British
history, the village atmosphere of this pavilion offers an old-world feeling of
enchantment. As Guests enter the pavilion, they are greeted by outdoor carts
selling refreshments and luscious desserts. Walking down High Street and Tudor
Lane, toward the cool greenery of Britannia Square, Guests pass a variety of
shops offering such British products as Twinings®tea,
Cadbury®chocolates, Royal Doulton®china,
sportswear from Wimbledon and handcrafted products from Wales.
Snuggled alongside the lagoon, opposite the shopping
street, the Yorkshire County Fish Shop, offers fish and chips. Next door, the
Rose and Crown Restaurant and Pub offers fare to satisfy a king-sized appetite,
such as prime rib or chicken and leek pie. The atmosphere of this establishment
is fittingly expressed by the sign out front: "Otium cum Dignitate" (Leisure
with Dignity). Inside at the traditional stand-up pub, Guests can tip a pint of
lager, Bass® ale or Guinness® stout.
